We are positively ecstatic about winning this contract. This award is the key that will open many other doors in government contracting, and it will help us maintain our vitality through economic downturns. Most importantly, it gives us the opportunity to hire more people in our rural community, helping us grow and thrive. Veronica and the entire APEX team have been absolutely invaluable. From helping us with SAM and JCP to offering support for all the finer details in between, they’ve been there every step of the way. We couldn’t have done it without them.

Choate Engineering Performance, LLC (CEP), a diesel engine remanufacturer known for its innovative approach to solving Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) design flaws, has successfully secured its first government contract. The U.S. Navy Carderock Division awarded CEP a contract worth $52,000 to overhaul a 6.7 Cummins engine, marking a major milestone for the company.

Founded in 2021 by Cass Choate, Choate Engineering Performance is based in Bolivar, Tennessee, located in Hardeman County—a designated distressed county. Despite the economic challenges typically associated with such areas, CEP has emerged as a key player in the remanufacturing and R&D sectors. The company’s focus on correcting flaws in OEM parts and delivering superior engine performance solutions has fueled its impressive growth and success.

“We are positively ecstatic about winning this contract,” said Shannon Freed, Assistant to CEO Cass Choate. “This award is the key that will open many other doors in government contracting, and it will help us maintain our vitality through economic downturns. Most importantly, it gives us the opportunity to hire more people in our rural community, helping us grow and thrive.”

CEP’s journey into government contracting has been supported by the Tennessee APEX Accelerator. Working closely with Veronica Clark, CEP received critical assistance with certifications, including HUBZone and Joint Certification Program (JCP), and guidance on everything from System for Award Management (SAM) registration to navigating NIST and AMPS compliance.

“Veronica and the entire APEX team have been absolutely invaluable,” said Shannon. “From helping us with SAM and JCP to offering support for all the finer details in between, they’ve been there every step of the way. We couldn’t have done it without them.”

Veronica Clark, who nominated CEP for a success story, praised the company’s persistence and eagerness to learn. “Cass and his team have shown incredible dedication,” said Clark. “They’ve been receptive to guidance, pivoting when needed, and their hard work has paid off with this contract win.”

Bolivar’s location in a distressed county underscores the significance of CEP’s accomplishments. By thriving in government contracting, CEP is not only creating jobs but also bringing new opportunities to the local community, demonstrating how determination and support can drive success in even the most challenging environments.

Looking ahead, CEP aims to leverage this success to continue growing, with a focus on providing more job opportunities in their local community. The company is excited about the future and committed to expanding its impact in the government contracting arena.
