From the start, we felt supported and empowered to elevate our business. The mentorship we received was invaluable. Veronica’s expertise helped us navigate complex processes and identify new opportunities which boosted our confidence in pursuing government contracts. I appreciate the personalized support we have experienced. Working with the Tennessee APEX Accelerator has been a game-changer for us. I highly recommend the program to any business looking to thrive in today’s competitive landscape.

Fast Freight Intermodal Carriers, a Memphis, TN-based trucking company was recently awarded three contracts with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to provide mechanical services to the Corps’ fleet of vehicles. Founded in 2014, Fast Freight specializes in providing comprehensive mechanical services for semi-trucks and trailers as well as reliable and timely pickup and delivery services throughout the Southeast region.

Fast Freight CEO and President Derrick Whitsy said, “Winning the Army Corps contract is a significant milestone for us. It is a pivotal achievement for us and will help drive growth within our company and its infrastructure, enhance our reputation, and empower us to continue to deliver exceptional value to our clients and the communities we serve.”

Fast Freight began working with West Tennessee APEX Accelerator Counselor Veronica Clark in June of 2021. Derrick came to APEX seeking guidance to expand the company’s operations and reach new markets. In addition to the one-on-one counseling he received, he participated in many of the training opportunities APEX provides at no cost to its clients. Veronica walked Derrick through the process of getting Fast Freight registered in SAM.gov as well as the DSBS. As part of preparing Fast Freight to branch out into the government contracting arena, the two worked together to craft an effective capability statement and elevator pitch.

Derrick said, “Veronica helped us navigate the complexities of federal contracts. She also facilitated introductions to industry contacts and other businesses, which continues to foster relationships which may lead to valuable partnerships. We received personalized advice based on our specific challenges and goals. She has helped us highlight our capabilities and position ourselves for future success.”

Veronica said, “Derrick has been very willing to listen, to follow the process and to accept constructive criticism along the way. He has applied what he has learned through trainings, continues to take advantage of networking opportunities and develop relationships. Despite some challenges, he has pressed on and shown resilience. He’s a great client – if he doesn’t understand something, he asks for clarification and then follows-through.”

When asked about his future plans, Derrick says, “I hope that our growth as a result of these contracts will enable us to give back to the community. By creating jobs and engaging in local initiatives, we can make a meaningful impact and strengthen our ties within the community we serve. I also hope to implement eco-friendly initiatives that reduce our environmental footprint while still delivering exceptional service to our clients.”

About his experience working with the Tennessee APEX Accelerator, Derrick said, “From the start, we felt supported and empowered to elevate our business.
