Skilled Workforce, based in Franklin, TN, is a veteran-owned service provider specializing in general contracting, staffing solutions, workforce development, and training. Founded in 2017 by Abe Mbow, the company was built on his extensive experience in both the corporate sector and the military. Shortly after launching the business, Abe sought guidance from the Tennessee APEX Accelerator to navigate the complexities of government contracting.
Through dedication and strategic planning, Skilled Workforce has successfully completed over 30 projects last year at multiple U.S. Coast Guard stations nationwide. These projects have included small fuel system repairs, HVAC replacement and maintenance, renovations, and demolition work. The company continues to secure additional contracts, a testament to its commitment to quality and reliability. Abe credits this success to his dedicated team and their collaboration with trusted subcontractors to ensure projects are executed efficiently while maintaining compliance with environmental and safety regulations. "This commitment to compliance and quality has minimized risk across all projects," said Abe.
Reflecting on his journey, Abe shared, “In 2017, I reached out to the APEX Accelerator (formerly PTAC) for guidance on government contracting and expanding our services. My counselor, Debbie Barber, played a crucial role in laying the foundation, helping with our SAM.gov registration, capability statement review, bid match activation, and SBA certification process.”
Debbie Barber, Middle Tennessee APEX Accelerator Counselor, praised Abe’s dedication: “Abe is a prime example of someone who follows his passion with determination. He has embraced the guidance we’ve provided, and it’s been rewarding to see his hard work translate into these contract awards.”
When asked about the impact of working with the Tennessee APEX Accelerator, Abe expressed his gratitude: “The support from Debbie Barber and APEX Program Manager Paul Middlebrooks has been instrumental in my business’s growth. Their dedication to helping small businesses succeed has made a lasting impact. I strongly encourage any business interested in government contracting to connect with the Tennessee APEX Accelerator. Their expertise, combined with self-determination and a commitment to quality service, will open doors and set any small business up for success.”
